Sunbed FAQ's
How frequently can I use a tanning bed?
Wait at least 24 hours between sessions for most skin types - this gives your skin time to recover.
For fairer skin (skin type II) we recommend 48 hours between sessions when you're building your tan. As a general rule, 3 sessions a week is the maximum recommended sessions per year. Do not have more than one session per day and do not exceed the maximum recommended sessions per year (commonly 60).
How much time should each tanning session last?
Session length depends on your skin type, the strength of the sunbed and how tanned you already are. As our beds are brand new, they're very strong and hot so we would always recommend dropping down a few minutes than your usual sessions elsewhere.
For beginners, we would recommend first-time users with very short sessions, often a few minutes and then increase gradually. The goal is reach your minimal erythemal dose (the amount of UV light your skin can handle before it starts to turn pink or burn - your skin's 'safe limit') without burning.
Our trained salon operators will set a safe time based on your assessment and equipment, if you are unsure on how many minutes you should start with.

No single minute number fits everyone, which is why professional consultation is required in regulated salons.
Which is my skin type and how does this effect the tanning process?
Skin Type I: very fair, burns easily, little to no tanning; this skin type is banned from using our sunbeds.
Skin Type II: fairish skin who do tan but burn easily, especially in the early stages so need to be patient and take controlled, limited exposures before achieving a tan.
Skin Type III & IV: tans more easily with less burning risk; can safely build up to longer, tailored sessions.
Darker skin types (V-VI): follow similar principles but may tolerate longer exposure.

When signing up with us, we require a skin type consultation form to be filled out, where we will assess your answers to ensure you are not at risk with the requested session minutes. Your safety always comes first and we are committed to advising responsibly but the choice is ultimately yours - we're here to help you make a sensible decision.
Do I really need to use protective eyewear while tanning?

Yes - protective eyewear is compulsory. Excessive exposure of the eyes to UV may result in a number of eye disorders such as: Photokeratitis (burning of the cornea - pain and blurring for several days). Cataracts (permanent damage to the cornea - surgery would be required). Basal Cell Carcinoma (delicate eye tissue can be damaged resulting in a growth - surgery may be required).

Protective goggles block UV and help prevent both short-term irritation and long-term eye damage.
Can I use sun cream in a tanning bed for extra protection?

No - sun cream is not used inside sunbeds. Please remove all outdoor sun creams, tanning oils or SPF lotions before going into a sunbed. These products are formulated for natural sun exposure, not controlled UV tanning beds - sun cream can disrupt your UV absorption. Along with this, heavy oils and creams can cause the acrylic in the sunbeds to cloud which eventually leads to cracking - please do not wear any sun creams, tanning oils, moisturisers etc. We have a number of accelerators and creams for you to choose from which are suitable for sun bed use.
